1. Instructions for Humidity Control Service
There are 8 pianos with humidity systems in the music department. They require refilling with distilled/purified water and special treatment solution each time the yellow light begins blinking. The special pitcher is used to deliver this solution to the humidifier bucket inside the piano by fitting the tip to the plastic hose under the piano and emptying the contents. Depending on the dryness or wetness of the atmosphere, the frequency will be every 5 to 14 days. If you see a light on for more than a day please report to the department.
One piano (Steinway O Grand in Wenger rooms) requires the disconnection of the humidifier side during the summer, as it has no sensor to detect that it is out of water. The humidifier is plugged back in at the beginning of the school year.
It is especially important to keep these systems plugged in and properly watered immediately when the yellow light comes on.
2. Regular Piano Service
The pianos at La Sierra University have a once-a-year base tuning schedule, with some faculty and piano major pianos tuned twice a year, and HMA stage pianos tuned more frequently. During peak recital times it is desirable to schedule the recital hall piano more frequently, but budget does not support tuning for each recital.
