This seminar presents the piano major, music teacher or music student with a thorough 3-4 hour introduction to the piano.

This seminar:

 investigates the modern piano in all its parts and functions

discusses the service needs of the piano - basic and advanced - and how to communicate those needs with the piano technician

 investigates the role of humidity and piano care

discusses how to purchase a piano

looks at the playing mechanism of the piano by means of a piano action model (a single-key example)

briefly surveys the history of the piano, with a brief introduction to the early piano

provides materials which the student will have for his/her permanent reference, including “The Piano Book,” by Larry Fine (4th edition), 6 Piano Service Brochures provided by the Piano Technicians Guild (Tuning, Rebuilding, Refinishing, Voicing, Humidity Control, Regulation), and the class handout..
